About Evan
Clarinetist
Clarinetist Evan Schnurr (he/him) grew up outside of Philadelphia and now lives in Austin, Texas, where he teaches and performs throughout the year. He is a member of the Dallas Winds and Cover to Cover Wind Quintet, two ensembles that regularly program living composers and reimaginings of classical favorites.

Evan’s musical journey started with marching and jazz band in high school, where he played both clarinet and saxophone, and he went on to study clarinet full-time in
college, first in Ohio and then Texas. While in college, he developed an interest in
teaching, starting with a small handful of students in the small town of Oberlin, Ohio. Currently, Evan teaches private lessons and works for the University of Texas at
Austin in addition to performing professionally. It is a busy lifestyle but incredibly
rewarding at the same time!

Since 2021, Evan has also volunteered with an organization called Through the Staff,
which provides free virtual music instruction for students facing barriers of access. He believes strongly in creating equitable, welcoming spaces in the arts for people of all backgrounds, and strives to exemplify this attitude in his work as a musician.
In his free time, Evan enjoys visiting local coffee shops, thrifting, and being around dogs of all shapes and sizes. Evan is thrilled to contribute to Clarinet Chronicles and use it in his own teaching as well!
